The Story of Count to Nine...
Last year Christi received a Will Shortz Sudoku book as a Christmas gift. She instantly fell in love with the game and played it non stop for several days. One afternoon Christi was stumped by a particularly challenging puzzle. After
witnessing this new obsession and thinking as any software guru would, Wayne decided it would take less time to write a computer program to solve the puzzle than to figure it out by hand.
Without telling Christi, he began writing a program to solve the evil sudoku puzzle. Several hours later the program was finished and the computer had found the solution. Wayne declared his sudoku victory and expected Christi to be
thrilled. Much to his surprise, she was irritated and a little sad. He had taken all of the fun out of this new game.
After the initial disappointment of knowing every puzzle could be solved by the click of a button, Christi asked "If you can solve the puzzles, can you create them? Because if you can, I never need to buy another sudoku book!” After
this epiphany, Wayne spent tens of hours building a website to avoid purchasing a $5 book. Within a month
was born. Amazingly, we found that playing sudoku online was even more fun than on paper. We soon realized that many others agreed…
